Face Friendly
Face Inclusion Matters helps to further the personal development of children and young people with and without disabilities. Through educational and structured leisure activities based on the principles of equality, diversity and interdependence, we enable young people with disabilities to play their role as active citizens in our society.
To sustain and develop our work we have established a social economy enterprise under the Face Friendly brand to generate much needed funds and to enable us to become more self-sufficient.
Businesses with customer-facing staff can avail of our off the shelf training in disability awareness, or discuss tailor-made packages with us.
An estimated 20% of Northern Ireland’s population has a disability. That means one in five customers of a business may have a disability. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Disability Order 2006 require businesses to treat this section of the community as equal to those without a disability and demands that businesses make reasonable adjustments to their premises, systems and procedures. However, it’s not just physical changes that will make a business more disability friendly: At Face , we go a step further with our “Face Friendly” programme; teaching customer facing staff how to deal with people with a disability in the proper manner.
In our experience it is fear, ignorance and uncertainty when dealing with a disabled person that makes it difficult for staff to act appropriately.
With over 100 years combined experience between us, we can offer a one day Disability Awareness Training Programme which teaches staff how to interact with people who have disabilities and concentrates on removing fear and apprehension when dealing and communicating with people with disabilities. We can also provide training bespoke to your type of business.
Individual participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course and your business will qualify to gain the Face Friendly plaque that you can display in public areas or use as an icon on your web page and official printed material.
Your customers will then know that they can expect to be greeted and served by staff with a practical understanding of disability.
